Starting a Cleaning Business
Somewhere deep down inside most people have a desire to own their own business, the only question
is what are you qualified in. There are many opportunities to work for yourself, whether its something small or you
think big and consider expanding, its all about the service that you offer. Without good service, you will end up
with unhappy customers.
If you don't mind working at odd hours of the day and night, starting a cleaning business may be just the thing
for you. Before starting a cleaning business you may wish to ensure that you are up to the task. If you hate
housework, chances are that a cleaning business is not your cup of tea.
Because of what it represents, a cleaning business can be quite competitive, however, you must be able to
provide references to show that you know what you are doing. If you are just starting out this may be difficult, so
providing some freebies to friends and family members in exchange for a reference could actually be considered as a
good investment.
Whether you are choosing to clean personal homes or businesses, your clients will need to be able to trust you.
This trust can be realized in the form of insurance and bonding as this will assure the client that at the very
least they will have some recourse if anything is damaged.
Depending on where in the world you live the laws and requirements for operating a cleaning business may vary so
you may need to check out your local government website to find out what license you will need and how to acquire
it. To keep your records straight for tax purposes, a separate business account should be opened at a local
bank.
Advertising and promoting your cleaning business is just as important as any other aspect of it. Whether its
training, taxes, licenses or bonding, if you don't have clients, you don't have a business. Some advertising can
come from word of mouth, the local paper, vehicle billboards, flyer's and door hangers. Finally, while your fee
should take into consideration what the competition is charging, don't give away your services.
